1. Bizliners vs. Business Jets

With the exhilarating certification of the Gulfstream G700 announced in late March, it follows the entry into service of the Global 7500 in 2019, presenting two business jets each offering four cabin zones and a range exceeding 7500 nautical miles. Presently, approximately 175 Global 7500 aircraft are in service, demonstrating the market demand for such a category, with dozens of G700s that have recently entered service. Both models have a list price of around $79 million.

In 2010, Bombardier introduced the Global 7000 (now 7500) as an upgrade for Global 6000 and G650 owners, and an alternative to Bizliners like Boeing and Airbus jets. It offers over 7,000 nautical miles of range, a private stateroom, speeds up to Mach 0.90, and the ability to land on short runways. Little did I know that 14 years later, I would be piloting the Global 7500 and undertaking these long-range missions myself, experiencing firsthand the product I once sold.

Upon joining Opus Aero, which specializes in Bizliners, my perspective on super-large jets and their offerings was broadened significantly, providing me with surprising insight. Bizliners prioritize grandiosity and space over sheer performance. They offer ample room to comfortably accommodate 15 to 25 passengers along with their luggage (typically 40 pieces or more). The interior design serves as an extension of one’s style at home or on a yacht, often featuring signature exclusive interiors by renowned designers. The travel experience is unparalleled, with cabin layouts tailored to individual preferences, resulting in a broader sensory experience. However, such luxury comes at a considerable cost, with interior configurations alone ranging from $45 million to $55 million, each requiring its own certifications— an option not available in Business Jets, which are typically sold with pre-chosen certified interiors. Factoring in the base aircraft price, fuel tank modifications, and other upgrades, the total cost easily surpasses $100 million.

While Bizliners may not achieve ranges exceeding 7,000 nautical miles or speeds surpassing Mach 0.80, they offer unparalleled comfort and space akin to that of one’s home, allowing passengers to spread out comfortably and carry significantly more luggage than on a Business Jet.

This BB-1 boasts a sophisticated lounge and dining area complete with a bar. Every material has been meticulously chosen to reflect the owner’s refined taste. For ultimate comfort in the skies, the aircraft also features an expansive master bedroom with an en-suite VIP bathroom with its own shower.

Showcasing an immaculate interior by Gore Design and refurbished in 2012 by AMAC Aerospace, this BBJ-2 highlights the extraordinary potential for personalization. The cabin comfortably accommodates 27 passengers, ensuring both style and relaxation.

Lastly, when comparing operating costs, there’s a common misconception that Bizliners are inherently more expensive. However, the reality is that they are almost comparable, if not only 15% higher, due to the compounding costs of crew salaries, training, parts, and engine reserve programs, which offset the higher fuel burn and handling/parking fees.

Ultimately, there is no definitive “better” or “worse” choice—it all boils down to the preferences of the end-user. Some prioritize spacious comfort over slight time saving or the sense of security afforded by flying at higher cruising altitudes over turbulent areas.

2. Winch Design Delivers Interior and Exterior Refit of Global 6000

In the realm of cabin customization, Winch Design recently showcased their latest project, setting a new standard for luxury aircraft interiors. Known for their innovative approach to design, Winch Design has once again demonstrated their expertise in transforming spaces with the completion of an extensive refurbishment of a Bombardier Global 6000.

The project has turned a ten-year-old business jet into a contemporary masterpiece, both inside and out.

Light, neutral-colored leathers, straight-grain walnut timber, and gold almond metal accents form the base of the interior palette. The Aft Lounge bulkhead features bespoke marquetry of color-tinted burr, while the mid and forward bulkheads are adorned with vertical 3D slatted screens of light wood and mirror, balancing privacy with transparency.

The hand-tufted wool carpet, with a wave-like pattern in bright aqua blue, transitions through subtle gradients inspired by natural textures and vibrant ocean colors. The carpet’s colors are reflected in the stitching on the leather inlays of the tables, while the wave-like pattern continues across the upper side walls and ceilings, adding depth and character to the space.

The exterior transformation is nothing short of spectacular. The bold exterior livery features a pearlescent white graphic pattern emblazoned on the rich, metallic teal-colored fuselage and winglets, creating a striking and dynamic appearance.

The aircraft refurbishment was completed under the watchful eye of operators AllianceJet.

Jim Dixon, Managing Partner and Creative Director of Yachts & Aviation at Winch Design, commented, “The Winch Design team thoroughly enjoyed the fast turnaround of this bespoke interior and exterior refit, and we are delighted with the striking end result.”
